Nutricia Lone Worker case study

Nutricia Case Study

As a recognised leader in specialised nutrition, Nutricia has a mission to lead the use of Advanced Medical Nutrition in disease management. By working in partnership with doctors, healthcare professionals and caregivers they are constantly working towards making a real difference in people’s lives by speeding recovery and encouraging independence.

Their broad and unique portfolio of products for many classes of patients, seeks to provide solutions and services wherever nutritional intervention can be shown to improve clinical outcomes. The specialised nutrition solutions can also help alleviate disease symptoms, or even delay the progress of disease in patients.

As a specialised unit of the international food company Danone, Nutricia have been the pioneers of Advanced Medical Nutrition in Europe, and are now rapidly expanding services for patients across the world.

The Challenge

As Nutricia nurses visit patients in their own homes within the community, the organisation identified a need to establish an effective time and risk management solution for its nurses.

As Lone Workers, the nurses can be at risk of aggression and violence from members of the public, either whilst travelling to or within a patients place of residence, it was therefore vital for Nutricia to be able to ensure the safety and whereabouts of their nurses at all times.

The Solution

Nutricia chose to implement Argyll’s Mobicare & Procare services using mobile phones and specialised devices as a risk and time management solution for their nurses. The service allows nurses who are based within the community to inform Argyll when they leave home and have started their working day.

As the day progresses and they arrive at their appointments the nurse can conduct an initial risk assessment based upon their knowledge of the client and their surroundings. The nurse may then raise their risk level whilst they are with the client and leave a detailed voice message outlining any potential risks they are aware of and their location. Once the appointment is completed the risk level is reverted.

If at any time the nurse feels threatened or at risk, a single button push alerts Argyll’s Alarm Receiving Centre which then opens a voice channel between the nurse and a highly trained operator who can alert the emergency services if required.

Outcome

Argyll’s Lone Worker solutions allow Nutricia nurses to feel confident that they have the means to summon assistance, even if they are unable to initiate a duress personally, at any time of the day or night, while Nutricia administrators and managers can continue with their normal duties safe in the knowledge that staff are being constantly monitored from the moment they leave home until they complete their shift and arrive home safely.
