Classic ‘Z’ Cars charity drive a success
Thu 17 Sep, 2009Argyll offered fans of the Datsun 240Z the chance to track the iconic ‘Z cars’ online as they drove from Land’s End to John O’Groats for charity. The event, which was organised by The Classic Z Register, in aid of the RSPCA (Previously known as Datsun in export markets) and was supported by the GTR Owners Club, celebrated 40 years of the Z Series, which was first launched in October 1969 in Tokyo.
Argyll provided the drivers with discreet personal safety devices incorporating Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) location technology necessary to track the route. Argyll is the UK’s market leader in lone worker and vulnerable person monitoring and assisted the event in order to demonstrate their technology. Fans were able to send words of encouragement to the drivers and provide additional financial support to the chosen charity, RSPCA.
The drivers started in Penzance on the 20th September and took 7 days to reach their destination of John O’Groats. On the way the team passed through many different areas including Aberystwyth, Fort William, and included a visit to Argyll’s newly built police compliant Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) at Sandbank, near Dunoon to review their progress!
